The following physicians have been accepted for membership in the Spokane County Medical Society:
Dr. Jeffrey R. Cummings has joined Fairchild Air Force Base Hospital in the practice of orthopaedic surgery. He graduated from Loma Linda University in 1994 and completed an internship and residency there this year.
Dr. Mary “Molly” L. Gilbert is practicing family medicine at Family Health Center of Spokane PS. A 1996 graduate of the University of Washington, she completed an internship and residency this year at Family Medicine Spokane.
Dr. Kurt P. Fine has joined Dr. James Brasch in the practice of obstetrics and gynecology. He graduated from Georgetown University in 1995 and completed an internship and residency at Emory University this year.
Dr. Thomas L. Halvorson has joined Rockwood Clinic in the practice of orthopaedic surgery. A 1988 graduate of Tulane University, he completed an internship and residency at Tulane in 1994. He also completed a fellowship at the Orthopaedic Specialty Hospital in 1997.
Dr. Kathleen S. Webb has joined Northwest Neonatology Associates in the practice of neonatology. She graduated from the University of Washington in 1986 and completed an internship and residency at SUNY Health Science Center in 1989. Webb also completed a fellowship at SUNY Health Science Center in 1993.
Dr. John J. Cambareri has joined Physicians Anesthesia Group in the practice of anesthesiology/pain management. Cambareri graduated from the University of Washington in 1986 and completed an internship and residency at University Hospital/SUNY Health Science Center in 1990.
Dr. Gregory P. Swanson is practicing radiation oncology at Cancer Care Northwest. Swanson graduated from University of Texas Medical School Houston in 1985. He completed an internship at Brackenridge Hospital in 1986 and a residency at Mayo Clinic in 1989.
Dr. Kurt A. Hales has joined Perinatal Associates in the practice of maternal and fetal medicine. He graduated from the University of Utah in 1987 and completed an internship and residency at the University of Oklahoma in 1991. Hales also completed a fellowship at the University of Oklahoma in 1993.
Dr. L. Mason Cobb has joined Drs. Holland and Starr in the practice of pediatric surgery. He graduated from Michigan State University in 1976 and completed an internship at St. Vincent in 1977 and at Good Samaritan in 1978. He completed residencies at Phoenix Integrated Surgical Residency in 1981 and at Pittsburgh Children’s Hospital in 1982. Cobb also completed a fellowship at St. Christopher’s Hospital in 1984.
Dr. Don. S. Howard has joined Physicians Clinic of Spokane in the practice of pulmonary disease/critical care medicine/sleep medicine. A 1990 graduate of the Medical College of Wisconsin, he completed an internship and residency at Wilford Hall Medical Center in 1993. He also completed a fellowship at Wilford Hall in 1996.
Coffman Engineers has added the following people to its staff:
Todd Chase joined the company as a PE mechanical engineer. Chase, who relocated here from Maine, has an industrial and commercial background. He previously worked for Bennett Engineering Inc.
Glen Hyman joined Coffman as an electrical designer. He previously worked for Great House Design and has a residential and commercial background. He moved here from Eugene, Ore.

Trinity Universal Insurance has promoted the following employees:
Todd Murphey was named personal lines manager of the southern region of Trinity Universal Insurance. Murphey, who will relocate to Dallas, came to Trinity’s Spokane branch in 1994 as a personal lines underwriter. He was promoted to personal lines unit manager in 1996, and then to the personal lines branch manager in Spokane in 1997.
Chris Barclay has been promoted to the personal lines manager of the Spokane branch of Trinity Universal Insurance. He came to Trinity’s Spokane branch in 1996 as a personal lines underwriter and was promoted to a personal lines unit manager in 1997.
Transactions:
Mark Bowlby, Mara’d Sjostrom and Rick Shenfield in the Coeur d’Alene office of D.A. Davidson & Co. have formed a partnership to improve the service and advice they provide to clients. Collectively, they have 28 years of experience in the financial services industry. Bowlby, a vice president/financial consultant, joined D.A. Davidson in 1986 after working at Dain Bosworth Inc. Sjostrom owned a retail nursery and garden supply business before joining the company in 1997. Shenfield joined Davidson in 1998 from Edward Jones Inc. after a long career in the retail grocery business.

Inland Northwest Partners has honored the following organizations for outstanding economic development efforts:
The Grant County Economic Development Council received the Community Award, which recognizes the community that has successfully implemented an effective recruitment, retention or community development strategy that has made a positive impact on the community’s economy. The award was based on the organization’s recruitment of Genie Corp. to Grant County.
The University of Idaho Research Park and North Idaho College received the Partnership Award for significant economic development accomplishments through innovative partnerships. The two organizations are collaborating on the new professional-technical academy designed to provide improved career preparation.
The Washington Department of Community, Trade and Economic Development received the Hall of Fame Award, which honors a person, community, agency or company that has provided substantial support to economic development efforts in the Inland Northwest.
Dennie Houle of CTED received the Hometown Hero Award, which is presented to the person, community, agency or company that has provided substantial support to economic development efforts in the Inland Northwest.
Opportunities:
The Spokane Area Chamber of Commerce is seeking nominations for the Agora Awards for business excellence for 2000. Nominees must be located within the Inland Northwest, but need not be chamber members. Criteria for selecting award winners include growth, marketing strategy, employee environment, response to adversity, customer service, community service, contribution to area economic development and job creation and uniqueness of product services.
