Robbery Suspect Arrested

A Spokane Valley man accused of displaying a knife and assaulting security officers at a Valley business on Christmas Eve was arrested on New Year’s Day.

Daniel H. Dunbar, 20, 17920 E. Boone, was a suspect in a shoplifting-turned-robbery at the Kmart at the corner of Sprague and Sullivan at noon on Christmas Eve.

A female security officer told deputies she saw a man stealing an electronic amplifier. She said that when she confronted him in the parking lot, he punched her in the face several times. He then bit a male security officer who came to her assistance and punched a third Kmart employee who tried to help detain him.

The man then pulled a knife, ran to a nearby car and drove away, according to the security officer.

The employees took down the license plate number and gave it to sheriff’s deputies. That led deputies to Dunbar and resulted in his arrest a week later.

None of the Kmart employees was seriously injured in the fight outside the store.

Dunbar was booked into the Spokane County Jail on a first-degree robbery charge and three counts of third-degree assault.
