Area college basketball

Freshman guard Abby Vaughan made six 3-pointers, one shy of the school record, to help Boise State defeat Gonzaga 69-56 Wednesday night in a non-conference women’s basketball game at Boise.

Senior post Stephanie Block added 18 points, nine rebounds and three blocked shots for the Broncos (7-6).

Jessica Malone hit 4 of 9 3-pointers and scored 16 for the Bulldogs (7-5).

Kristin Deal’s 11 rebounds led GU to a 50-44 edge.

The Zags scored 24 points off second-chance shots. But GU, trailing by just one point at halftime, missed 29 of 35 from the floor in the second half.

Bernice Stime scored 14 of her 23 in the second half to lead the Sasquatch (14-1) over the visiting Hawks (5-6) in the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges opener at Spokane Community College.

Karie Pruett added four 3-pointers and 19 points for CCS, which played its third consecutive game without starter Rebecca Triplett (foot injury).

Andre Ervin led all players with 26 points and 15 rebounds, and the Sasquatch defeated the Hawks in an NWAACC opener at SCC.

Ervin finished 11 of 14 from the field and 4 of 5 from the line. CCS hit 24 of 28 free throws while CBCC made 15 of 17, including Ty Shaw’s 10-for-10 night.

Chris Anderson hit five 3-pointers and scored 22 for the Sasquatch.

Neal Robertson made all five of the Hawks’ 3-pointers to score 23.
