East Valley Wrestlers Dump Nc
Close wins to start the night helped East Valley topple host North Cen- tral 44-14 during Thursday’s Greater Spokane League wrestling.
EV’s Nate Knodel edged David Weddle 7-6 at 135 pounds to begin the meet. NC responded with Jason Neumiller’s pin at 140, but EV won the match at 145 on Dave Musser’s 6-5 decision over Mario Montague.
EV’s Brian Lopes (171) tagged the first league loss on Ezra Bocook, 5-4.
The win improved East Valley’s league record to 4-1. NC is 3-3.
GSL leaders had an easy go for the second consecutive night. University (6-0), Rogers (5-0) and Gonzaga Prep (5-1) all won easily.
James Pearson (140) rebounded from a 4-0 deficit to pin Jared Lee in the second round during G-Prep’s 49-15 victory over visiting Shadle Park (1-5).
Prep won the first six matches to build a 28-0 lead. Shadle’s Jeremy McVay (189) ended the shutout with a takedown at the buzzer to edge Will Tombari 4-3.
Rogers unleashed four consecutive pins during the middle of its match to top visiting Lewis and Clark 57-6.
Zak Depue (160) started the pin streak, building a 15-1 lead over Shawn Dehaven before a secondround fall. Mike Zinkgraf (112) of Rogers had a third-round reversal to hold off Tyler Menzel 5-2. Aaron Tweete of LC (0-5) edged freshman Mike Miner 2-0 at 275 with a late reversal.
U-Hi had four pins during a 44-16 win at Ferris (0-6). Tom Tran’s pin of Ferris’ Tyler Byers at 103 came while Byers was negotiating for the pin, but rolled back and pinned himself. U-Hi’s Gordon Moore (215) defeated Dan Gonzales 5-4 after Gonzales missed points because of an inadvertent first-round whistle.
Central Valley (3-2) won five of the final six matches to rally past host Mt. Spokane 34-22.
Mt. Spokane (0-5) led 18-13, but the Bears zoomed back with Nick Klassen’s 6-1 win at 275, a forfeit at 103 and David Reese’s pin of Justin Karlick at 112. John Daschbach (130) capped CV’s night by defeating Paul Evenson 8-7 on a takedown with 10 seconds left. CV also had a big early win, with Ryan Bishop (145) escaping late to edge Adam Gumke 5-4.
Great Northern League: Deer Park had nine pins while defeating visiting Pullman 61-18 in a league opener.
Five of the Stags’ final six pins - by Bryan Balfour (140), Patrick Marshall (152), Orin Davis (171), Blake Noll (189) and Seth McLean (275) - came in the first round.
In the night’s other opener, Jonny Varona’s pin at 215 gave Medical Lake a 24-0 lead and the Cardinals rolled to a 54-19 win at Chewelah.
The Cardinals won four matches by forfeit. ML’s Hieu Do had a 7-6 win at 119.

Megan Kane and Carmi Eberle both hit two free throws in the final 1 minutes, lifting Post Falls to a Border League win over visiting Moscow on Thursday.
The Trojans protected a 22-20 lead for 2 minutes before their late free throws.
