Spirituality program launched
The Kaufer Co. Christian bookstore is starting a new program called Kaufer’s After Hours. The interfaith program will feature weekly sessions that include author readings, discussions on spirituality, a coffeehouse and book reviews.
The first program, “Soul Cafe,” will be from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Friday and will feature music, singing, poetry, stories and drama.
The various formats will be used in a rotating schedule, with spirituality discussions on Mondays, book reviews or author readings on Wednesdays and the Soul Cafe coffeehouse on Fridays. The Wednesday and Monday sessions will run from 7 to 9 p.m.
Other sessions scheduled for January include an evening of book reviews on Jan. 19 and a discussion on religion in America by faculty from Whitworth College and Gonzaga University on Jan. 24.

AIDS care training planned
The Spokane Multifaith AIDS Care Team Ministry will hold a volunteer training session on Jan. 22 in O’Malley Hall at St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church, 330 E. Boone. It will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Care teams provide practical support such as transportation, shopping and errands for people living with AIDS as well as offering spiritual and emotional support. Each care team has between seven and 10 members to coordinate service to one person.
Anyone interested in being a part of a care team must attend this month’s training session.
Topics covered during training include pastoral and spiritual issues of AIDS, basic facts about the disease, and psychosocial issues. A panel of people affected by the disease will also share experiences.
Cost: $20, which includes lunch. Registration deadline is Jan. 19.

Spiritual family will be topic
St. Mary Press in Minnesota and St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church are teaming up to present a workshop titled “Sacred Relations: Raising a Spiritual Family.” The event is scheduled from 1 to 5 p.m. Jan. 23 at St. Aloysius Catholic School, 611 E. Mission.
The featured speakers are Leif Kehrwald, author of “Family Spirituality,” and Spokane resident Kathy Finley, author of “Our Family Book of Days: A Record Through the Years.” Parents will learn ways to pray and serve as a family and ways to nurture children’s faith.
Cost: $15 per person or $20 per couple. Scholarships are available.

Christian dialog topic
A minilecture series for clergy and lay people titled “Christianity in Dialog: The Gospel in a Pluralistic Culture” will be Feb. 6 at the Foley Library on the Gonzaga University campus. The lectures begin at 3 p.m. and will feature Mark Swanson and Tom Rogers.
Sawnson is a professor of Islamic studies at Luther Seminary in St. Paul, Minn. He will lecture on “Tending the Culture of the Christian Church Amid the Cultures of Other Faith Traditions.”
Rogers is the homiletics professor at Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary in Berkeley, Calif. He will speak on “Preaching Across Cultures: Exploring Ethnicity, Class Displacement and Belief.”
