Programs Slated To Honor Mlk Jr.

The Kootenai County Task Force on Human Relations will hold three events this week to celebrate the life of Martin Luther King Jr.

Some 1,200 fifth-graders are expected to attend a children’s program at North Idaho College on Thursday. The program will include a performance by folklorist Ted Hutchinson. The event is closed to the public due to a capacity crowd of students.

The task force also will host an evening honoring King’s life Friday at the First Baptist Church in Coeur d’Alene. The program, from 6 to 7 p.m., will include musical performances, schoolchildren’s readings of King’s writings, comments from former state Sen. Mary Lou Reed, and a candle lighting ceremony. The event is free and open to the public.

Finally, the task force’s annual fund-raiser will be at the Clark House in Hayden Lake on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. The event includes food, music and a silent auction. Tickets are $25 per person. Proceeds go to fund programs such as diversity activities in Kootenai County schools.
