A North Idaho wetlands conservation group is expanding into Boundary County. The Clark Fork Pend Oreille Wetlands Trust has $250,000 in grants for individuals and groups, and is seeking applications from Feb. 1 until Feb. 18.

The money comes from a settlement last year of a lawsuit against the Idaho Transportation Department. Trust officials requested U.S. District Court Judge Edward Lodge expand the legal boundaries of the area for settlement-funded projects outside Bonner County. Lodge granted them the new boundaries in December.

“We have a limited time frame,” trust secretary and staffer David Sawyer said. “We struggled a little bit getting good projects.”
