Snow Sport Report
Alpine skiing/snowboarding
How great was the snow at Schweitzer Mountain last Saturday? Excellent enough for more than 5,200 skiers and snowboarders to head to the mountain - and create 45-minute lift lines during rush-hour periods.
The Selkirk Classic, a USATA telemark race, will run Saturday and Sunday at Schweitzer. Saturday’s race will combine GS, touring and nordic jumping. Sunday is a dual slalom format. All registration is at Pend Oreille Brew Pub and discounted lift tickets are available to participants through race registration.
Catch some Big Air at Silver Mountain on Saturday. Local competitors should meet at the Big Air jump in the Chair 4 basin at 11 a.m. Prizes awarded. Competitors will be judged on height, distance, form and style, landing and jump difficulty.
Also at Silver, the INSA Rider Cross series, a skiing and boarding competition, begins at 10 a.m. Sunday. Over $1,200 cash prizes for first, second and third will be awarded. This is the first of five events sponsored at bigwoodie.com. Next up are Lookout, 49 Degrees North, Mount Spokane and Schweitzer Mountain.
The Lookout Pass free ski school (ages 6-17) is going so great that resort owner Phil Edholm needs volunteer instructors. The program is every Saturday morning. Info.: 208-744-1301 (extension 10).
