Chiefs Squander Big Opportunity In Seattle
On paper, the Spokane Chiefs had everything pointing in their favor Friday night at KeyArena.
The Chiefs had won all three of its meetings with Seattle this season. They had won four in a row and 13 of their last 15 road games and were 13-6-0-1 on enemy ice.
But Jason McKee rebounded an Alan Manness one-timer past Spokane goalie Tyler MacKay 3 minutes, 59 seconds into overtime to lead Seattle to a come-from-behind 3-2 victory over Spokane.
Meanwhile, Prince George earned a 7-2 victory at Kennewick over the Tri-City Americans to close to within six points of the front-running Chiefs in the Western Hockey League West Division standings. Spokane is host to the second-place Cougars tonight at the Arena. Game time is 7:05.
Spokane led 2-0 after two periods on goals by Brandin Cote and Daniel Bohac.
Cote put the Chiefs up 1-0 with his 11th goal at 15:39 of the first. Lynn Loyns and Tim Smith picked up assists on the play.
Bohac scored his team-leading 24th goal at 13:09 of the second period with assists from Loyns and Roman Tvrdon.
The Thunderbirds answered early in the third period when Oleg Saprykin converted a Shane Endicott pass after just 49 seconds to cut the lead in half.
Saprykin was playing his first game since tallying four goals and two assists in the WHL All-Star Game on Wednesday at Kelowna.
Endicott tied the score at 8:17 with his 12th goal of the season. David Morisset and Saprykin collected assists.
Seattle is 2-0-3 in home OT games.
Spokane played its second straight game without newly acquired goaltender Jason LaBarbera. LaBarbera is day-today with a hip injury.
