Home-Grown Show
Outdoor programs
“Northwest Outdoors, ” a half-hour program focused on recreation in this region, is out of hibernation and back on public television.
The crew wanders in search of the best in the West, whether it’s sturgeon fishing in the Columbia, dayhiking at Mount Rainier, horseback riding near Kettle Falls, Wash., rafting the Rogue River, or hunting in northeastern Washington.
Wally Pease, who died in 1997, created the program at station KYVE in Yakima in 1981 as a fishing and hunting show.
The program has been revived, expanded and spiffed up by Rick Spencer, who was the photographer and editor for Pease.
“The format for the new show still is centered around fishing venues, but we try to feature many different outdoor activities, especially for families,” Spencer said.
Beginning this month, the show has been airing Sunday’s at 6:30 a.m. on KSPS channel 7, Spokane Public Television.

Spencer has a program on kids hunting chukars as well as one on backyard birdwatching.
