‘Godzilla’ Returns This Year

The Hollywood Reporter

Another “Godzilla” will be stomping through theaters this summer.

Sony Pictures’ Entertainment has acquired “Godzilla 2000: Millennium,” the Japanese-produced feature from Toho Co. Ltd., with plans for a summer release. The purchase marks the fifth Godzilla feature SPE has acquired from Toho since the early 1990s, including “Godzilla and Mothra: The Battle for Earth, “Godzilla vs. Spacegodzilla” and “Godzilla Vs. Destoroyah.”

“Godzilla 2000” is the first of these acquisitions that Sony will release theatrically. Directed by Takao Okawara, who directed “Godzilla and Mothra” and “Godzilla vs. Destoroyah,” the film tells the story of the famous creature battling an alien life form that is awakened from its 6,000-year sleep in the depths of the Japan Trench.

The film will be dubbed in English for its U.S. release.
