Gunman Invades Apartment

From Staff Reports

FOR THE RECORD (Friday, January 28, 2000): Story in error: A gunman who broke into a north Spokane apartment Tuesday night injured two women and stole money from another woman. A Thursday article on Page B2 indicated otherwise.

A gunman forced his way into a North Spokane apartment Tuesday night, injured two people and fled after stealing money, police said.

Spokane police responded to a call at 2928 N. Hogan at 7:30 p.m. When they arrived, they found a woman with two small children frightened and crying.

The victims told officers that a man had kicked in their door and demanded money. When the intruder entered, the woman and another man in the apartment ran into the bathroom, where two children were in the bathtub.

The gunman followed and fired a shot that shattered the toilet, the victims told police. The two girls were hit by pieces of porcelain and one received cuts on her face.

The robber then hit the woman in the head and stole money from the man, the victims said.

Police said the robber was wearing a mask that covered his face. An investigation is continuing.
