Leona Burchett Spokane

Service for Leona G. Burchett, 86, will be at 11 a.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North. Burial will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Burchett, who was born in Spokane, died Monday.

She was a homemaker.

Her husband, George, died in 1966.

Survivors include two sons, Everett Burchett of Spokane and Derwood Burchett of Mead; two daughters, Darlene Tindal and Georgia Benway, both of Spokane; a brother, Norman Herstien of Nevada, Mo.; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Irving Brooks Cheney

Visitation for Irving N. Brooks, 86, will be from 2 to 5 p.m. today at Cheney Funeral Chapel. Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Cheney. Private burial will be at Spokane Memorial Gardens.

Born in Burks County, N.D., Mr. Brooks died last Friday.

During the Depression he moved to Athabasca, Alberta, and worked as a chauffeur. He later moved to Tacoma and worked in a plywood mill.

He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps where he felled trees and worked in a blacksmith shop.

Mr. Brooks graduated from a barber school and became an instructor at the Molar Barber College in Spokane. He later managed the Molar Barber College and worked for the Water Department. He also worked in the shipyards and helped build Liberty ships.

He married Della Jenkins in 1938, and they later moved to Wilder, Idaho. In 1948 they moved to Cheney.

Mr. Brooks was co-owner of the Model Barber and Beauty Shop. He retired in 1977.

He was a member of the Jaycees, Cheney Chamber of Commerce and Emmanuel Lutheran Church.

His wife died in December.

Survivors include a daughter, Charlene Hughes of Bellevue, Wash.; a son, Kevin Brooks of Tacoma; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Margaret Thompson Spokane

Funeral Mass for Margaret Minnie Thompson, 89, will be at 10 a.m. today at St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church. Burial service will follow at 2:30 p.m. at St. Thomas Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A 23-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Thompson died Tuesday. She was born in Fergus Falls, Minn.

She was a homemaker and a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by three husbands, Clarence Hoyt, Ray Schuster and Cleo Thompson.

Survivors include a daughter, Eunice Hepper of Spokane; a brother, Alvin Gunderson of Torrance, Wyo.; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Esther (Green) Porter San Diego

Memorial service for Esther Loraine (Green) Porter, a former Spokane resident, will be at 2 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North.

Mrs. Porter, who was born in Froid, Mont., died Jan. 20. She was 76.

In 1943 she married Charles Porter. They lived in Havre, Mont. They moved to Spokane in 1986 after her husband retired from the railroad.

She recently moved to San Diego.

Mrs. Porter was a homemaker and a member of the Lutheran church.

Her husband preceded her in death.

Survivors include a son, Bob Porter of Spokane; two daughters, Jeanne Brubaker of Butte, Mont., and Deb Porter of San Diego; two sisters, Patty Whitaker and Elvira Green; two brothers, Adam and Henry Green; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Allen Agee Sr. Tumwater, Wash.

Memorial service for Allen Marshall Agee Sr., 80, was Jan. 11 at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Tumwater.

Mr. Agee, who was born in Kooskia, Idaho, died Dec. 23.

He graduated in 1936 from Kooskia High School.

He was a general contractor. Mr. Agee lived in Spokane for 33 years before moving to Tumwater in 1979.

He was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Jeanne Ann; three sons, Allen Agee Jr., of Spokane, John Agee of Medical Lake and Mark Agee of Silverdale, Wash.; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Helen Nelson Spokane

Memorial service for Helen Sands Nelson, a former high school teacher in Pullman, will be at 2 p.m. today at Community Congregational United Church of Christ in Pullman. Kimball Funeral Home in Pullman is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Nelson, who was born in Cambridge, Mass., died Monday. She was 90.

She graduated from the Boston Latin School and Radcliffe College in Cambridge in 1929. She pursed advanced studies in political science and economics from Harvard, the University of Hamburg in Germany, the Geneva School of International Studies in Switerland and the Brookings Institution in Washington D.C.

In 1935 she married James Nelson.

Mrs. Nelson taught social studies at Pullman High School from 1966 to 1974 and served as chairperson of social studies from 1970 to 1973.

She and her husband moved to Spokane in 1989.

Mrs. Nelson held offices in the Pullman Education Association, the Parent Teacher Association, Community Congregational Church and the Pullman branch of the American Association of University Women.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, James Nelson of Bedford, Texas, and Richard Nelson of Orinda, Calif.; and a brother, Charles Sands of Boston.

Albert Clausen Greenacres

Service for Albert A. Clausen, 82, will be at 2 p.m today at the United Church of Christ in Tekoa, Wash. Burial will follow at Goldenrod Cemetery in Tekoa. Kramer Funeral Home in Tekoa is in charge of arrangements.

Born near Potlatch, Idaho, Mr. Clausen died Monday.

His family moved to a farm near Tekoa when he was 10 years old.

He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II in North Africa and Italy with the 31st Depot Repair Squadron.

Mr. Clausen returned to the Tekoa area after the war. He worked on the Hahner-Hanson farm and at the grain elevator for Rathdrum Prairie Grain Growers near Tensed, Idaho.

In 1961 he married Violet Schneider. They moved to Moscow, Idaho, in 1965.

Mr. Clausen worked as a delivery driver at Washington State University for 18 years, retiring in 1982.

They moved to Hayden, Idaho, in the late 1980s and he moved to the Good Samaritan Village in Greenacres five years ago.

Survivors include his wife of Hayden; a stepson, Charles Schneider of Priest River, Idaho; and a stepdaughter, Jackie Malinauskas of Coeur d’Alene.

Patricia Davis Spokane

Memorial service for Patricia Ann Davis, 74, will be at 11 a.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home.

A 37-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Davis died Monday. She was born in Crosby, N.D.

She was a homemaker and a member of Plymouth Congregational Church.

Survivors include her husband, James; two daughters, Karla Smith of Spokane and Peggy Bingham of Rock Springs, Wyo.; two sons, Douglas and Michael Smith, both of Spokane; three stepdaughters, Linda Davis and Jeannine Pacheco, both of Spokane, and Lorraine Scott of Pasco; a sister, Phyllis Leiren of Lacey, Wash.; 16 grandchildren and two great-grandsons.

Bethel Steiger Colfax, Wash.

Service for Bethel Marian Steiger, 89, will be at 11 a.m. today at First Baptist Church in Colfax. Burial will follow at the Colfax Cemetery. Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Steiger, who was born in Wilcox, Wash., died Sunday.

She graduated from Colfax High School in 1930 and married Oscar Steiger.

Mrs. Steiger worked on the family farm and was a homemaker.

She was a member of the Dusty BB Club, Whitman County Cowbelles, Rebekah Lodge, Diamond Ladies Club and Parvin Grange.

Her husband died in 1992.

Survivors include a son, Donald Steiger of Menlo Park, Calif.; a sister, Melba Russell of Colfax; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Reinhold `Brutus’ Przewolka Spokane

Memorial service for Reinhold “Brutus” Przewolka, 74, was Tuesday at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. Mr. Przewolka, who was born in Kattowitz, Poland, died Jan. 20.

A 41-year Spokane resident, Mr. Przewolka owned and operated the Franklin Press Print Shop.

Survivors include his wife, Ursula; a daughter, Karen Dominquez of Spokane; and a granddaughter.
