Background: Massey, 45, has served at Valley Baptist Church for the past 12 years. He was ordained in 1982 after graduating from the Colgate Rochester Divinity School in New York with a master of divinity degree. The native of Salem, Ore., completed a doctor of ministry degree from San Francisco Theological Seminary in 1999.

He has served on the Hospice of Spokane board of trustees for two years and is also involved in the new Providence Center for Faith and Healing, run by Sacred Heart Medical Center.

Personal: He and his wife, Teresa, have been married 15 years and have an 11-year-old son named Christopher.

Teresa is a developmental studies instructor at Spokane Falls Community College.
