Diabetic Driver Hits Two Cyclists
July 8, 2000: The July 1 accident that injured two bicyclists on Upriver Drive occurred near Pasadena Park Elementary School. The name of the school was incorrectly reported in Thursday’s Valley Voice.
Two bicyclists were injured when a driver lost control of her car and collided with them Saturday.
The woman had a diabetic attack, lost control of her car and collided with two cyclists riding along the Centennial Trail on Upriver Drive. The accident occurred near Ponderosa Pines Elementary School at 3:20 p.m.
Both bicyclists had scrapes and bruises but no broken bones. They were treated at Kootenai Medical Center and released.
The 60-year-old female driver, Betty A. Randall, of Spokane, was treated for low blood sugar. After recovering, she was arrested on a misdemeanor theft warrant.
The sheriff’s office is investigating filing a criminal reckless driving charge, said Sheriff’s spokesman Cpl. David Reagan. It appeared that the suspect had not eaten anything all day, which can be dangerous for a diabetic, he said.
