One of the area’s longest-running but lower-profile arts festivals, the Chewelah Chataqua, opens today and continues through the weekend.

The 26th annual event in the Stevens County town’s city park features free entertainment; art, craft and food booths; a beer garden for adults; a carnival for kids; a square-dance festival; baseball, softball and golf tournaments and more.

Musical headliners include classic rockers Men In The Making on Friday at 8 p.m., country rockers Aftershock on Saturday at 8:30 p.m., and ska-funk faves Civilized Animal on Sunday at 9 p.m.

Other Saturday events include a fun run at 7:30 a.m., a parade at 10 a.m. and a radio-controlled model aircraft show at 1 p.m. For more information, call (509) 935-8991.
