Shriners Ready For Fun

The Pacific Northwest Shrine Association will bring 1,500 Shriners to Spokane this weekend as part of their annual convention.

Public events such as men’s choirs, band competitions with displays of clowns and mini-motorized vehicles are scheduled today and Saturday.

The Shrine is the 530,000-member fraternity that founded and continues to operate 22 Shriners hospitals in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Some scheduled events include:

Friday

Competitions for marching units, bands and men’s Shriner choirs will begin at 8 a.m. at the Convention Center. Bands will compete at 1 p.m.

The Ridpath Hotel hosts a clown competition from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mini-motorized vehicles will be on display at 10 a.m. in the Arena parking lot.

At 2 p.m., at the downtown Masonic Temple, the Shriners will conduct a flag-raising and dedication ceremony.

Also at 2 p.m. there will be a mounted horse patrol competition at the Interstate Fairgrounds.

Saturday

It is Shrine Kids Days in Riverfront Park and downtown Spokane. Carousel rides are free from 9 to 10 a.m.

The Shrine Parade through downtown begins at 10 a.m. at the Spokane Arena and continues east along Boone, south on Washington, west along Spokane Falls Boulevard and north on Post.

At 11:30 a.m., there will be clowns performing at the Clock Tower meadow.
