The Ferry County Arts Alliance has announced its new board of directors, which includes President Susan Davis and Vice President Tom Craig. The alliance is seeking new members to help build programs for culture and arts throughout the county. The towns of Odessa and Reardan fared well in recent state audits. They were found to be complying with state laws and their own city ordinances.

Fire Protection District No. 6 recently purchased a defibrillator with a $3,200 grant from the state Department of Health. The district relies heavily on grant money, and one of its commissioners acts as a grant writer. This particular grant adds up to 8 percent of the department’s yearly budget.

The Spokane Public Library will host a series of Harry Potter parties, recommended for children ages 8 and older. The parties will be Aug. 1, Hillyard branch at 2 p.m and Indian Trail branch at 3:30 p.m.; Aug. 2, South Hill branch, 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.; Aug. 3, Shadle branch, 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.; Aug. 4, East Side branch, 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.

All are welcome to the Library of the Lakes’ second anniversary party today and Saturday. The Friends of the Library are celebrating with a used book sale. All attending will receive a $1 coupon toward purchase. Hard-covers are $1 and paperbacks are 50 cents. Proceeds from the sale will go toward the summer reading program. The Friends have already donated $250 for this summer’s program.

An eight-mile stretch of the rutted, two-lane Moscow-Pullman highway is slated to be replaced starting in August. The $1.5 million Washington Department of Transportation project is likely to cause significant delays for commuters on Highway 270, which links the university towns of Moscow, Idaho, and Pullman.

The school district is looking for a lunch program coordinator. The district was happy with InterPacific Management, but concerned about the high cost of the company’s services. The district plans to keep some of the changes made, such as the variety in menus, but will hire a manager for the Food Services Program.

The third annual Immunization Party series will be held Mondays by the Sandpoint Rotary and Panhandle Health District. Activities include face painting, cake and ice cream, fishing booths and a chance to win a bicycle or tricycle - and children’s immunization shots. Hunter education class registration for August and September classes is set for noon to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Idaho Fish and Game office, 2750 Kathleen Ave. By state law, people born after 1974 must complete a hunter education course before purchasing a hunting license. The Latah County Historic Preservation Commission will award a committee, formed from Friends of the Troy Community Library members and the All School Get-Together Committee, with the Orchid Award for Outstanding Historic Preservation Work. The award will be presented at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Troy Park gazebo as part of the Old Timer Day celebration.

Stacie Sandow is the Shoshone Medical Center Employee of the Month. Sandow has worked as a biller/collector and receptionist in the Physicians’ Clinic department since October 1998. She lives in Pinehurst with her family and likes crafts, walking and reading to her children.

The Walk-A-Thon fund-raiser held in May raised $4,000 for the David Thompson Search and Rescue Volunteers and $2,000 for the Libby Volunteer Ambulance service. Fourteen people walked and raised the money for the two volunteer groups.
