Cooper Earns Amateur Title
Molly Cooper of Tacoma Country and Golf Club won the 99th Pacific Northwest Golf Association women’s amateur tournament on the 37th hole Friday at Seattle’s Broadmoor Golf Club.
Cooper sank a 3-foot par putt on the first extra hole to defeat Leila Chartrand of Uplands (Victoria, British Columbia) Golf Course. Chartrand ran into trouble on the par-4 hole by attempting to reach the green with her second shot.
Chartrand led by two strokes after 27 holes. Cooper sank a 6-footer on the 36th hole to extend the match.
Cooper, who plays for Arizona State University, eliminated Sarah Walter of Bonners Ferry during Thursday’s match play.
Jeff Quinney of Eugene (Ore.) Country Club and Han Lee of Los Coyotes Country Club in Canada advanced to today’s 36-hole championship match of the 99th PNGA men’s amateur tournament at Bandon (Ore.) Face Rock Golf Course.
In the match-play semifinals, Quinney defeated Tim Mickelson of Riverwalk Golf Course and Lee defeated Wes Heffernan of Silver Springs Country Club. Both scores were 2 and 1.
Quinney eliminated Ritzville’s Ryan Benzel on Thursday.
