Driver Arrested After High-Speed Chase

A man who attempted to elude police Sunday afternoon nearly hit two girls on bicycles as he drove his car through North Side alleys at 50-60 mph, Spokane police said.

Police said that after it was spotted speeding, the car was followed from the intersection of Stone and Marshall to the 1900 block of South Riverton about 2:15 p.m. The driver then jumped out of the car and ran into an apartment complex.

Police found another adult and a 2-year-old child in the car who was not wearing a safety restraint.

Heath F. Langeberg, 23, was arrested on charges of reckless driving and driving with a suspended license. Police said he was found hiding in the basement of his apartment at 1929 E. Marshall.

Langeberg has seven convictions for driving with his license suspended and one for attempting to elude police.
