Santangelo, Dench Join Nba Squads
Guard Matt Santangelo and forward/center Axel Dench, instrumental in Gonzaga University’s run to the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight in 1999 and to the Sweet 16 last season, are on the rosters of NBA summer league teams.
Santangelo will play for the Vancouver Grizzlies, while Dench is with the Houston Rockets. Both signed as free agents after being bypassed in the recent NBA draft.
Vancouver and Houston play in the summer Rocky Mountain Revue in Salt Lake City, Utah. Games begin Friday and continue through July 29. Houston will have two games televised on ESPN2 - July 25 against Utah at 5 p.m. and July 27 against Cleveland at 11 a.m. Vancouver will not appear on television this summer.
Gonzaga guard Richie Frahm is exploring his options for a free-agent contract with an NBA club, and guard Ryan Floyd departs later this month to play pro ball in Germany. Both were seniors for the Bulldogs last season.
