Commissioners Ponder Selling Office Complex
Spokane County Commissioners will consider selling a two-story office complex the county owns at Trent and Argonne during a public hearing Aug. 1.
The county bought the offices and adjoining parking lot at 2702 N. Argonne Road when the Argonne underpass was built, said Deborah Firkins, county right-of-way engineer.
The Gunning family, or T&D Investments, has offered the $235,000 asking price for the building, said Carl Guenzel, of Kiemle and Hagood Co., who negotiated the pending deal for the county.
The Gunnings are developers who helped build the Northwood subdivision.
“They actually rent the top part of the building already so it’s a good fit,” Firkins said.
Pacific Mortgage Co. also rents space in the office building.
The county tried once before to sell the office building and adjacent parking area for $290,000, but the deal fell through, Firkins said.
When the county must buy land for road widening and other projects, Firkins said, they generally like to try to sell anything they won’t be using as soon as possible.
“Sometimes it takes longer than others,” Firkins said. The Argonne underpass opened in late 1996.
The county must consider any offers up to and during the public hearing. However, they may not be taken seriously without earnest money.
The hearing will be held at the county commissioners’ regular meeting at 5 p.m., Aug. 1 in the Public Works Building, 1026 W. Broadway.
