Memorial Garden To Be Dedicated

From Staff Reports

A memorial garden and park will be dedicated Sunday at 2 p.m. adjacent to the Bayview Community Center.

The garden features a picnic shelter, bridges crossing a dry creek, an arbor, a rose garden, grass play area and more than 300 trees, shrubs and perennials. The bell from the Bayview schoolhouse has found a new home there. It sits on a platform of bricks salvaged from the Wigwam, a hotel which was razed in the early 1960s.

A granite memorial wall is the final addition to the garden. It will be a place for Bayview residents to honor loved ones with name plaques, according to Community Center board president Chuck Waller. Contributions will go into an endowment fund that will be used to maintain the garden.
