Vivian Pendell Spokane
Memorial service for artist J. Vivian Pendell, 84, will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Pendell Ranch. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Pendell, who was born in Pilot Rock, Ore., died Tuesday.
Her family moved to Spokane in 1920, and at age 9 she began studying art at Spokane University.
Mrs. Pendell created and taught art for 75 years. She completed works of oil paints, watercolor, leaded and fused glass, jewelry, ceramic and sewing. Her works have been exhibited at the Northwest Annual Watercolor Show, the Spokane Watercolor Society, Art on the Green, Cheney Cowles Museum, Washington State University and Colburn’s Gallery. She also made costumes and sets for the Civic Theatre.
Her husband of 59 years, Claude Jr., died in 1991.
Survivors include three sons, John and Raymond Pendell, both of Spokane, and Larry Pendell of Springfield, Mo.; two daughters, Melva Evans and Patrice Pendell, both of Spokane; three sisters, Caroline Russell of Deer Park, Mary Steinle of Portland and Ruth Protzman of Everett; 17 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Wishing Star Foundation or the Spokane Art School.
Vivian Young Spokane
Funeral Mass for Vivian L. Young, 76, will be at 10 a.m. today at St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
A 47-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Young died Thursday. She was born in Logan, Utah.
She worked as a travel agent for Jet Set Travel.
Mrs. Young was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1435 Auxiliary and St. Thomas More Church.
Survivors include her husband, Howard; two daughters, Kathleen Northcutt of Steamboat Springs, Colo., and Judithy Demarest of Boulder, Colo.; two brothers, Tom Twichell of Helena and Jack Twichell of Missoula; and five grandchildren.
Percy Schroder Spokane
Private service for Percy L. Schroder, 88, will be held at Fairmount Memorial Park. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
A lifetime Spokane-area resident, Mr. Schroder died Tuesday. He was born in Waverly, Wash.
Mr. Schroder worked as a hardwood floor contractor for 28 years. He was a member of the National Rifle Association.
His wife, Lucille, died in 1985.
Survivors include a son, Richard Schroder of Alaska; a half-brother, Ron Schroder of Elk; and two grandsons.
Anita DeLaPena Spokane
Graveside service for Anita Marie DeLaPena, 75, was Friday at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.
A lifetime Spokane resident, Mrs. DeLaPena died Wednesday.
She worked for the state of Washington and was a member of Eagles Lodge 2.
Survivors include eight sons, Daniel, Tino, Alex, Michael, Gerard, Pat, Bob and Vince DeLaPena; three daughters, MaryJo Coe, Louise Pedersen and Christina Riley; 20 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Irene Jacobson Spokane
Memorial service for Irene V. Jacobson, 88, will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Opportunity Presbyterian Church. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of arrangements.
Born in Napoleon, N.D., Mrs. Jacobson died July 13.
During World War II she worked in a munitions depot for the Army as a civilian in Minnesota.
She married Carl Jacobson in 1947.
Mrs. Jacobson worked in customer service for Sunset House, a mailorder company, in California.
She moved to Spokane in 1980 and was a member of Opportunity Presbyterian Church.
Her husband died in 1991.
Survivors include a daughter, Donna Schultz of Bellingham and two grandchildren.

William George Spokane
Memorial service for William H. George, 54, will be at 11 a.m. today at the Episcopal Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
A lifetime Spokane resident, Mr. George died Thursday from injuries suffered in an automobile accident on Spotted Road in west Spokane County.
He graduated in 1964 from North Central High School.
Mr. George owned and operated restaurants and taverns in the Spokane area.
He was a member of the Spokane Polo Club and St. John’s Cathedral.
Survivors include his mother, Sue George; a brother, Bob George; and a sister, Barbara Gucinski, all of Spokane..

Alice Bittick Chewelah, Wash.
Service for Alice Marie Bittick, 89, will be at 11 a.m. today at Schanzenbach Funeral Home in Chewelah. Burial will be at 3 p.m. at the Palouse (Wash.) Cemetery.
Born in Palouse, Mrs. Bittick died Wednesday.
During the 1930s she played piano in a band in the Palouse area.
Mrs. Bittick moved to Chewelah in 1951.
She and her husband, Clinton, operated Bittick Chevrolet in Chewelah until his death in 1970.
Mrs. Bittick was a member of the Nile Club, Chewelah Women’s Club and the P.E.O.
Survivors include two sons, Jim Bittick of Spokane and Bill Bittick of Palm Desert, Calif.; two granddaughters and one great-grandson.
Eugene Cress Spokane
Service for Eugene D. “Gene” Cress, a lifetime Spokane resident, will be at 1 p.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Riverside Memorial Park.
Mr. Cress, 70 died Thursday.
He graduated from Rogers High School and worked as a carpenter in the construction industry.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Emily; a daughter, Patti Steiner of Diamond Lake, Wash.; two sons, Scott Cress of Mead and Michael Cress of Cusick, Wash.; a brother, Vernon Cress of Spokane; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Earl Hunt Pinehurst, Idaho
Memorial service for Earl L. Hunt, 82, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Pinehurst. Shoshone Funeral Service in Kellogg is in charge of cremation arrangements.
Mr. Hunt, who was born in Coeur d’Alene, died Thursday.
He graduated in 1938 from Coeur d’Alene High School. He served in the Army during World War II.
Mr. Hunt settled in the Silver Valley after his military service and worked for Bunker Hill Mining Co. until retiring.
He married Georgia Heier in 1985.
He was a member of Kellogg Elks Lodge, Osburn Veterans of Foreign Wars and Our Savior Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Gregg McCallum of South Carolina; a daughter, Joy Hunt of Fredericksburg, Va.; a stepson, Jack Heier of Idaho Falls; a brother, Melvin Hunt of Colville, Wash.; and six grandchildren.
Brenda Blackwell Lewiston
Memorial service for Brenda Warn Blackwell, 94, will be Aug. 21 at 1:30 p.m. at Congregational-Presbyterian Church in Lewiston. Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home in Lewiston is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Blackwell, who was born in Spokane, died July 13. She graduated from Lewis and Clark High School and attended the University of Washington.
She married Frederick Blackwell. They lived in Spokane for many years. She was a homemaker and also worked part-time for Stejer’s IGA store. They also operated Blackwell Motor Co. in Spokane and Lewiston prior to retiring and moving to California. She returned to Lewiston in 1985 to be near family.
Her husband preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Pauline Robinson of Culdesac, Idaho; a son, Fritz Blackwell of Pullman; three grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
