Tribe, Lcsc Plan Advisory Board

The Nez Perce Tribe and Lewis-Clark State College have agreed to establish an advisory board to the president of the school.

“This agreement will help us expand our efforts to increase the number of Nez Perce students at the college, to better educate our young people and to prepare them for the future,” said Samuel N. Penny, Chairman of the Nez Perce Tribal Executive Committee.

The agreement sets up a Nez Perce Advisory Board that reports directly to the Lewis-Clark State College president and to the Nez Perce chairman.

“Although the tribe and the college have a long history together, this agreement is an important foundation piece for our future mutual efforts,” said Rita Morris, acting Lewis-Clark State College president. “We hope to find new ways to involve tribal members in our educational activities in order to increase the LCSC community’s understanding of the culture of the Nez Perce people.”

Penney said that 151 Native American students, 50 of whom are Nez Perce, attend the northern Idaho college.

“We hope to significantly increase that number,” he said.
