Man Arrested After Shooting Death
Spokane police arrested a man Monday who allegedly was involved in the early morning fatal shooting of a 22-year-old woman.
Steven N. Hansen, 23, is being held in the Spokane County Jail on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm. No charges have been filed in connection with the death.
Court papers filed Monday say police arrived at 2404 W. Francis about 1 a.m. and found Hansen crying in the front yard.
He was upset about the shooting death of Carisa D. Chapman. Chapman and Hansen had three small children who were turned over to their grandparents, police said.
Hansen told a police officer that he had taken his gun and was leaving the home when Chapman grabbed the weapon and it accidentally discharged.
Officers found Chapman inside the bedroom. A handgun was on the dresser, according to court papers.
Hansen, who has four felony convictions, including one for assault and one for unlawful possession of a firearm, said he kept the gun for protection.
