Earnings Reports Send Stocks Falling
Another batch of disappointing earnings reports pushed stock prices lower Wednesday and left worried investors mulling the possibility of shrinking profits in the second half of 2000.
The Dow Jones industrial average closed down 183.49 at 10,516.48, and the Nasdaq composite index rebounded from a loss of more than 100 points early in the session to end down 41.85 at 3,987.72.
Natural gas prices zoomed upward Wednesday on the New York Mercantile Exchange after new industry figures renewed concerns about tight market supplies.
Gasoline futures also increased sharply on worries about production at a big New Jersey refinery.
