UI Golden Key Inducts Washington Students

The University of Idaho chapter of Golden Key, a scholarship and service honorary, has selected 186 students for induction. To be eligible, students must be juniors or seniors with a minimum grade-point average of 3.3.

Honorees from Washington include:

Amy Torguson, Latah; Erica Gentry, Mead; Rebecca Phillips, Pullman; Jennifer Burton, Rockford; and Kelly Bartleson and John LaVigne, both of Spokane.

The University of Idaho has honored 26 juniors with membership in the Mortar Board, a national student leadership and service honorary. Students must be in the upper 35 percent of the class or have at least a 3.0 grade-point average. They must have demonstrated leadership abilities and been involved in university and/ or community service projects.

Honorees from Washington include:

Amy Torguson, Latah; and Steve Anderson and Storie Santschi, both of Spokane.

Students in the University Honors Program undertake an enriched liberal arts curriculum in conjunction with their majors, which range across all colleges and divisions of the university.

The minimum qualifications necessary for students to apply for admission to the UHP are a 3.7 cumulative grade-point average from high school, an ACT composite score of 28, an SAT combined verbal/math score of 1250, or once a student is at the university, a cumulative gpa of 3.5.

Honorees from Washington include:

Ryan Coles, Deer Park; Aaron Maki, Oakesdale; Jaron Leach, Spokane; and Stephanie Crace, Veradale.

Jan Jones, a Colton, Wash., high school counselor, is among five educators from Idaho and Eastern Washington selected to receive the Inspirational Teacher Award presented by Lewis-Clark State College.

Jones was nominated by Jeremy McArthur. The awards are presented annually to educators who inspire high school seniors to attain high academic achievements in their initial semester at LCSC.

The following students at the University of Idaho graduated from the Coeur d’Alene Resident Instruction Center after completing requirements for degrees.

Master’s of education degrees went to: Stephanie Steadman, secondary education, Deer Park; Jill Borley Andersen, administration, Liberty Lake; and Kenneth Mankins, counseling and human services, Otis Orchards.
