State Senior Games Will Be At Scc

The Washington State Senior Games will be held Aug. 10-13 at Spokane Community College.

The annual event is sponsored by the Senior Assistance Fund of Eastern Washington.

The games are open to all seniors age 50 and older. There will be competitions in golf, softball, swimming, cycling, three-on-three basketball, racquetball, dance and table tennis. There will also be a triathalon.

The event will feature a dinner and silent auction at SCC on Aug. 12. The auction is free and begins at 4 p.m.

Tickets for the dinner, which starts at 6 p.m., are $15.

The track and field events will be held at SCC on Saturday, a week earlier than the rest of the games. Categories include a relay race, a race walk, high jump and pole vault.

Seniors must register by Tuesday by calling 465-9043. The cost is $15 to register and there is an additional charge of $5 per event.

Lung association offers bike tour

The American Lung Association of Washington will sponsor a fund-raising bicycle tour in September. The 18th annual Trek Tri-Island tour departs from Seattle and ends in Canada for a total of 135 miles. It will be offered three times, Sept. 9-11, 16-18 and 23-25.

Each rider is required to pay a $50 registration fee and raise an additional $350 in donations. The ride includes ferry fees, overnight accommodations, truck support, some meals and mechanics. Riders will complete the trek in teams of three.
