‘In Crowd’ Entertaining

Rachel Rickard Lewis & Clark Graduate

“The In Crowd” Rated: PG-13

The title of this movie and its gorgeous cast may remind you of such hilarious teen flicks as “Clueless,” but “The In Crowd” is more in league with the “Scream” trilogy.

There’s nothing like the issue of acceptance to turn a movie that could look like a cheap knockoff of every other teen-horror flick into marketable Hollywood material.

Adrien (Lori Heuring) is released from a psychiatric institution and sent out into the world to begin a new life, only to be snared in the game of a true psycho. The questions of who, when, why and how are predictably answered, but the viewer is trapped by a plot that never reveals too much too soon.

The PG-13 rating was evident throughout the film. With the exception of a few swear words, brief nudity and one major outburst by the psycho killer, there was rarely anything truly disturbing.

The murders aren’t shown, so the twisted mind of Brittany (Susan Ward) and the simple plot prove just enough to keep viewers hooked without forcing them to look at gruesome details. The film seemed like a more sedate version of what the thriller originally was intended to be, but cast members were perfectly suited to their roles and the cinematography was perfectly paced.

Although the plot was somewhat predictable, there was never a truly boring moment.
