Obituaries

Ernest Kuhn Spokane

Service for Ernest Nathaniel Kuhn, 91, will be at 11 a.m. today at Manito Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Ball and Dodd Funeral-South is in charge of arrangements.

A 60-year Spokane resident, Mr. Kuhn died July 2. He was born on the family farm in Ritzville, Wash.

He farmed with his father until the age of 11. His parents died in 1920. During high school he worked for the Ritzville Trading Co.

In 1928 he graduated from Ritzville High School. He received a bachelor’s degree in education with emphasis in business from the University of Washington in 1932.

During the Depression he worked as an office manager at the Fork Peck Dam site in Montana. He also worked in Blackfoot and Shelby, Mont., Glacier National Park and Minneapolis.

In 1935 he married Bessie Kellenberger.

In 1944 he open a private accounting firm in Spokane and retired in 1974.

He was a member of Manito Presbyterian Church, Manito Masonic Lodge, the Order of Eastern Star, Delta Sigma Phi fraternity, the University of Washington Alumni Association, the Brotherhood of Friends, the Washington and American societies of Certified Public Accountants and the American Association of Hospital Accountants.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Nancy Foley of Tacoma; a son, Gary Kuhn of Spokane; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Manito Presbyterian Church.

William Scott Spokane

Service for William Scott, 76, was Sunday at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Burial followed at Spokane Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Scott, who was born in Fresno, Calif., died Tuesday.

Mr. Scott served in the Navy from 1942 to 1944.

He was a 25-year Spokane resident and worked as a mail carrier for the Postal Service.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Martha; two sons, Dan Willis of Chattaroy and Sonny Willis of Whidbey Island, Wash.; two brothers, two sisters, nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Leonard Ruby Valley, Wash.

Visitation for Leonard Ruby, 56, will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Service is planned for 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Assembly of God Church, Spokane. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mr. Ruby, who was born in Spokane died Wednesday.

He worked as a carpenter. He also ministered at the Union Gospel Mission for 30 years.

Mr. Ruby and his wife, Bobbi, moved to Valley from Spokane two years ago.

Mr. Ruby was a member of First Assembly of God Church for 30 years.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Mark and Mike; two daughters, Megan and Carri; his mother and stepfather, Sylvia and Lyle; a sister, Marilee; and seven grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Union Gospel Mission.

Carisa Chapman Spokane

Service for Carisa D. Chapman, 22, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of arrangements.

Miss Chapman died Monday from an gunshot wound. She was a lifetime Spokane resident, and a homemaker.

Miss Chapman was a member of New Life and Morning Star Missionary Baptist churches.

Survivors include three children, Dominique, Steven and Quincy Hansen; her father, Perry Chapman; her mother, Pamela Chapman; her stepfather, Kenneth McIntyre; two sisters, Latisha Chapman and Tiesha McIntyre; and two brother, Tyrus Chapman and Kacey Campbell, all of Spokane; her grandparents, Lethel and Liminix Lawless, Luchan Hadley and Trudy Hansen, all of Spokane, Hazekiah Chapman of Alabama and William Campbell of Mississippi; and her great-grandmother, Julie Hansen of Spokane.

Donald Malson Spokane

Memorial service for Donald D. Malson, 70, will be at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Fairmount Memorial Park. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A 19-year Spokane resident, Mr. Malson, died Thursday.

He was born in Peoria, Ill., where he graduated from high school in 1947.

Mr. Malson served as a boiler man on a Navy destroyer during the Korean War. He later worked for McDonnell-Douglas on the Apollo project.

He was an appliance repairman and department manager for Sears in various locations for 20 years.

Survivors include his wife of 16 years, Linda; two sons, Corey Teeters of Spokane and Anthony Malson of San Francisco; two daughters, Nancy Malson of Concord, Calif., and Deana Malson of Phoenix; a brother, Chuck Malson of Fort Meyers, Fla.; a sister, Mary Carey of La Quinta, Calif.; and two grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Union Gospel Mission.

Ellis `Nick’ Nichols Spokane

Private memorial service for Ellis L. “Nick” Nichols, 85, will be held at a later date in Hayden Lake, Idaho. English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Nichols, who was born in Coeur d’Alene, died Tuesday.

He grew up on the family homestead in Coeur d’Alene. He worked in various logging and Civilian Conservation Corps camps before working for Pacific Car in Renton, Wash., during World War II.

Mr. Nichols settled in Spokane after the war and worked as a welder for Union Iron Works and. He retired in 1978 after 27 years.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Kathryn; a daughter, Kathy Marshall of Spokane; two stepsons, Dave Bell of Spokane and Keith Bell of Gladstone, Ore.; three granddaughters and three great-grandchildren.
