Albert `Nunny’ Garrick Tensed
Rosary for Albert R. “Nunny” Garrick, 62, will be today at 7 p.m. at the DeSmet (Idaho) Community Center. Burial Mass will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Mission Catholic Church in DeSmet. Burial will follow at the Coeur d’Alene Tribal Cemetery. Yates-Hodge Funeral Home in St. Maries is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Garrick, who was born in Tilma, Idaho, died Saturday.
He grew up in Tensed, and graduated in 1956 from Plummer (Idaho) High School. He attended North Idaho Junior College for one year before enlisting in the Coast Guard.
Mr. Garrick served a combat tour in Vietnam aboard Coast Guard cutter Point Garnet. He retired as a chief petty officer in 1977 after 20 years. He received numerous awards during his military career, including the Cutterman’s Badge, Presidential Unit Citation, Combat Action Ribbon, Commendation Medal, Unit Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal with three bronze stars, Vietnam Service Medal with device, the Vietnam Campaign Medal with device and the Vietnam Armed Forces Meritorius Unit Citation.
Mr. Garrick returned to the Coeur d’Alene Reservation in 1980.
In 1985 he married Joy Adair. He worked for the tribe as manager at Benewah Automotive.
He was a member of the Coeur d’Alene Tribal Council from 1987 to 1997 and served on various committees, including the Benewah Community Hospital board of directors, lake management and natural resources.
Mr. Garrick was a member of the Sacred Heart Mission Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Raila Garrick of Tensed, and Barbara Nicholson of Missoula; a son, David Garrick of Tensed; a brother, Joseph Garrick of Forks, Wash.; three sisters, Roberta Juneau of Plummer, Barbara Sczenski of Worley, Idaho, and Louise Becker of Gooding, Idaho; and two grandchildren, Zane and Luke.
Max Lyons Spokane
Service for Max Thomas Lyons, 70, will be at 2:30 p.m. today at Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax, Wash. Burial will follow at Colfax Cemetery.
Born near Steptoe Butte in Whitman County, Mr. Lyons died Saturday.
He grew up on a farm near Elberton, Wash., and graduated in 1948 from Garfield (Wash.) High School.
After high school he worked for his father’s construction business, building roads and operating heavy equipment.
He married Loretta Schuman and they moved to Garfield, where he worked in various taverns and restaurants. He and Loretta later divorced.
In 1954 he moved to Las Vegas and worked at the Horseshoe Casino for six years before returning to the Spokane area. He owned and operated the Stardust restaurant and lounge in the late 1960s.
He married Joy Ungari and they moved to a farm near Chewelah, Wash., where they raised cattle, horses and pigs. He later sold the farm and moved to Valley, Wash., where he owned the General Mercantile and Tavern.
Mr. Lyons retired after his wife’s death in 1990. He moved to Spokane in 1997.
Survivors include his companion of three years, Beverly Hinton; two sons, Thomas Lyons of Spokane and Anthony Lyons of Walla Walla; a brother, Earl Lyons of New Mexico; and three grandchildren.

Lester Thompson Priest River, Idaho
Graveside service for Lester Merlin Thompson, 82, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Evergreen Cemetery in Priest River. Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport, Wash. is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Thompson, who was born in Bismarck, N.D., died Wednesday.
He graduated from high school in Republic, Wash.
In 1944 he married Gwendolyn Davis. He served in the Army during World War II as a tank operator.
Mr. Thompson was a form setter in the concrete industry.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Gloria Weston of Snohomish, Wash.; a sister, Ardella Miller, and a brother, Verl Thompson, both of Tucson; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Ethel Phillips Spokane
Memorial service for Ethel G. Phillips, 81, will be at 11 a.m. today at Opportunity Presbyterian Church. Hennessey-Smith Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Phillips, who was born in Harlowtown, Mont., died Wednesday.
She was a 51-year Spokane resident andwas a homemaker.
Mrs. Phillips was a member of the Newman Lake Ladies Club and the League of Women Voters.
Her husband, Lindley, died in August.
Survivors include two sons, Charles Phillips of Veradale and Roy Phillips of Omaha, Neb.; two daughters, Sharon Conlon of Post Falls and Patricia Phillips of Seattle; a sister, Virginia Cummings of Boise; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Ralph Mincks Spokane
Visitation for Ralph W. Mincks, 89, is planned for 9 a.m to noon today at Heritage Funeral Home. Service will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Spokane Memorial Gardens.
A lifetime Spokane resident, Mr. Mincks died Friday.
He graduated in 1929 from Lewis and Clark High School and served in the SeaBees during World War II.
Mr. Mincks was a master carpenter and cabinetmaker and worked as a general contractor.
He was a member of First Covenant Church.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Grace; two sons, Robert Mincks of Spokane and William Mincks of Pullman; two daughters Laura and Ruth Mincks, both of Spokane; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Rosella Brady-Lindgren Liberty Lake
Memorial service for Rosella Mae Brady-Lindgren, 90, was Monday at the family home in Liberty Lake.
Mrs. Brady-Lindgren, who was born in Kaw City, Okla., died Thursday.
She graduated in 1929 from high school in Ark City, Okla., and in 1933 married Dwight Brady. He died in 1971.
Mrs. Brady-Lindgren was a cosmetics salesperson at The Cresent department store for 25 years.
She was a member of the Liberty Lake Garden Gals and was the grand marshal of the Liberty Lake Fourth of July Parade in 1998.
Survivors include her husband of 24 years, Bert; a son, Roland Brady of Hailey, Idaho; and two grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children.
Martha Nordgren Sandpoint
Service for Martha M. Nordgren, 91, was Monday at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Private burial was at Fairmount Memorial Park.
Mrs. Nordgren, who was born in Republic, Wash., died Wednesday.
She was a homemaker.
Her husband preceded her in death.
There are no surviving family members.
Paul Parks Hope, Idaho
Service for Paul W. Parks, 76, will be today at 2 p.m. at Coffelt Funeral Service in Sandpoint. Burial will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Sandpoint.
Mr. Parks, who was born in Zeeland, Mich., died Thursday.
He graduated from high school in Grand Rapids, Mich., and then served with the Navy in the Atlantic during World War II.
Mr. Parks enlisted in the Air Force during the Korean War and was an air traffic controller. He retired in 1963.
In 1962 he married Patricia Vincent.
He worked for the Federal Aviation Association as an air traffic controller in Florida, Alabama and Georgia, retiring in 1975. Mr. Parks moved to Sandpoint after his retirement and recently had settled in Hope, Idaho.
He was a member of the Sandpoint Trap Club, the Elks Lodge and the Lakeside Masonic Lodge and was a 32nd-degree Scottish Rite Mason.
Mr. Parks built and flew radiocontrolled model aircraft and had a private pilots license.
Survivors include his wife; four children, Ron Nelson of Coeur d’Alene, Julie Nelson and Kathleen Parks-Gardner, both of Maryland, and Richard Parks of South Carolina; two sisters, Marie Windisch and Evelyn Dreyer, and a brother, Eddie Videan, all of Michigan; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children in Spokane or Kinder Haven in Sandpoint.
Thelma Knowles Spokane
Memorial service for Thelma L. Knowles, 92, will be at 2 p.m. today at Opportunity Christian Church. Private burial will be at Pines Cemetery. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Knowles, who was born in Mountain Home, Idaho, died Friday.
She graduated from Central Valley High School in Spokane.
Mrs. Knowles was a homemaker and a member of Opportunity Christian Church, a Spokane Valley garden club and the Women’s Democratic League. She was a precinct registrar for the Woodruff Precinct for the Spokane County Election Board. She also delivered Meals on Wheels.
Her husband, Harry, died in 1958.
Survivors include two sons, Marvin Knowles of Spokane and Lee Knowles of Coeur d’Alene; a daughter, Luella Swanson of Ocean Park, Wash.; a sister, Margaret Wingett of Spokane; eight grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Opportunity Christian Church.
Charles Stolz Spokane
Funeral Mass for Charles H. Stolz, 92, will be at 9:30 a.m. today at Jesuit House Chapel. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Stolz, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Thursday.
He graduated in 1927 from Gonzaga Prep and in 1932 from Gonzaga University. While at GU he was captain of the track team and senior class president.
After graduation Mr. Stolz sold mining stocks and was a desk clerk at the Ridpath Hotel. He later worked for the Internal Revenue Service and was a co-founder of Metropolitan Mortgage and Securities, for which he served on the board of directors for many years. He also worked as a tax adviser and business consultant.
He operated Stolz Realty and spent 12 years on the Real Estate Commission. In 1972 he served as president of the Board of Realtors and in 1980 he was named Realtor of the Year.
Mr. Stolz also served as president of the Spokane Manito Lions Club and Spokane Commercial Travelers and was a board member of the Athletic Round Table. He was a 10-year member of the President’s Council Board at GU, where he was involved with the Great Teachers Program, Gonzaga’s annual fund drive. In 1991 the university awarded him the Distinguished Alumni Merit Award.
Survivors include two daughters, Elizabeth Grundvig and Marjorie Ostle; a son, William Stolz; and six grandchildren.
George `Judd’ Orth Jr. Newman Lake
Visitation for George “Judd” Orth Jr., 68, will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.
Mr. Orth, who was born in Brainerd, Minn., died Friday.
He moved to Spokane in 1945 and graduated from North Central High School in 1949.
In 1952 he married Erma Alexander.
He worked for Carnation Dairy for 34 years and retired in 1988.
Mr. Orth helped start Contented Federal Credit Union in 1957 and acted as its treasurer until he retired from Carnation.
He was a 36-year member of St. Aloysius Parish, where he served on the parish council and school board. He also was a member of the Navy League and Teamsters Union Local 582.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Rick Orth of Kennewick; two daughters, Jeannie Semler of Otis Orchards and Suzanne Burnette of Nashville, Tenn.; and five grandchildren.
