Mamie Otterson Post Falls

Graveside service for Mamie H. Otterson, 88, will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Evergreen Cemetery in Post Falls. English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Otterson, who was born in Mound City, Kan., died Tuesday.

She moved to Kellogg in 1925 and was a homemaker. She married Palmer Otterson in 1932, and they settled in Coeur d’Alene.

Mrs. Otterson had served as an administrator at Kootenai Memorial Hospital and was a former member of Carnation Rebekah Lodge 12.

She was active as a golfer and played the organ.

Her husband died in 1984.

Survivors include a son, Ted Otterson of Post Falls; a daughter, Barbara Patterson of Seattle; two sisters, Maxine Land and Shirley Jacobs, both of California; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Glen Nirk Post Falls

Memorial service for Glen Edward Nirk, 78, will be held June 17 at 1 p.m. at the home of Ron and Janie Nirk in Potlatch, Idaho. Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Nirk, who was born on the family farm in Potlatch, died Sunday.

He attended Deep Creek School and graduated from Potlatch High School in 1939. He served with the Army infantry during World War II.

Mr. Nirk married Opal Brandt in 1946. She died in 1963.

He married Janet Foster in 1964, and they later divorced.

Mr. Nirk worked as a farmer, a cattle buyer for Y-J Packing Co., a carpenter for Boise Cascade and a realtor with Brian Bacon and Realty World until retiring in 1989.

He was active in gardening and fishing.

Survivors include three sons, Jim and Dwayne Nirk, both of Post Falls and Jeff Nirk of Athol, Idaho; a daughter, Carolyn Janzen of Spokane; a brother, Ron Nirk of Potlatch, Idaho; three sisters, Cleora Strong of Moscow, Idaho, Leola Barner of Post Falls, and Norma Jean Crydebring of Potlatch; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Glenn Bellinger Santa Maria, Calif.

Private service for Glenn L. Bellinger, a former resident of Spokane, will be held at a later date. Dudley-Hoffman Mortuary in Santa Maria is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Bellinger, who was born in Wallace, died Saturday. He was 90.

He graduated from Gonzaga Law School and served in the Navy from 1943 to 1946.

In 1959, Mr. Bellinger moved to Santa Barbara, Calif., where he was vice president and general counsel for Motel 6. He also practiced law in Santa Barbara for 10 years, and later was vice president and general manager of First American Title.

He moved to Santa Maria in 1985.

Mr. Bellinger was a member of Elks Lodge 613, La Cumbra and Montecito country clubs, all in Santa Barbara. He was a former post commander for the American Legion in Spokane, a past president of the Goleta Rotary Club and a vice president of the Santa Barbara Chamber of Commerce.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Virginia; a son, Tony Bellinger of Ojai, Calif.; two daughters, Soon-Hie Bellinger-Sargent of Boise and Wun-Hie Bellinger-Black of Santa Barbara; and three grandchildren.

Levina `Betty’ Hadaman St. John, Wash.

Rosary service for Levina Elizabeth “Betty” Hadaman, 85, will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church in St. John. Funeral Mass is planned for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Colfax, Wash. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery. Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hadaman, who was born in Cuyuna, Minn., died Tuesday.

She lived with her family in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, until she was 12. They moved to Wenatchee and then to Libby, Mont. She married Roy Hadaman in 1928, and they lived in Rawlings, Wyoming, for 10 years.

Mrs. Hadaman moved to Colfax in the early 1940s and later to St. John. She began working as a housekeeper for Jack and Doris Smith in 1954.

She was a member of St. John Catholic Church.

Her husband preceded her in death.

Survivors include two half sisters, Erma Nelson of Spokane and Evelyn Thomas of Coeur d’Alene; and two half brothers, Leonard Everitt of Spokane and Herb Everitt of Coeur d’Alene.

Arlene Chambers Potlatch, Idaho

Graveside service for Arlene B. Chambers, 78, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Freeze Cemetery north of Potlatch. Kramer Funeral Home in Palouse, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Chambers, who was born in Orlando, Okla., died Tuesday.

She graduated from high school in Oklahoma in 1941.

Mrs. Chambers married Edwin Chambers in 1947, and they moved to Potlatch.

She worked at Boeing as a final inspector during World War II. She later worked as a waitress at the Potlatch Confectionary and as a bookkeeper for her husband’s business, Ed’s Garage.

Her husband died in 1984.

Survivors include four sons, Michael Chambers of Clarkston, Wash., and Jerry, Larry and Charles Chambers, all of Potlatch; a daughter, Edith Newport of Choctaw, Okla.; two brothers, Harry Bunney of New Orleans and Earl Bunney of Eufaula, Okla.; three sisters, Minnie Raupe of Coeur d’Alene, and Merle Michalik and Marge Pangle, both of Lewiston; 16 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Potlatch Ambulance Fund.

Laurent Ranval Coeur d’Alene

Private burial for Laurent Edward Ranval, 73, was held at an earlier date at Forest Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene. Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Ranval, who was born in New Orleans, La., died May 31.

He grew up in New Orleans and moved to Los Angeles in 1958. He married Barabra McClain that same year and they moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1980.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Laurent Ranvall II of Post Falls; a daughter, Louann Smith of Coeur d’Alene; and two grandchildren.

Carlin McKinney Spokane

Memorial service for Carlin Richard McKinney, 67, will be at 2 p.m. today at Fairmount Memorial Park. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. McKinney, who was born in Seattle, died Friday. He was a 41-year Spokane resident.

He was a truck driver for Bulk Commodities.

Mr. McKinney was a member of Eagles Lodge Aerie 2 and Teamsters Union Local 690.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy; four sons, Ron Wells, Tim and Terry McKinney, all of Spokane, and Monroe Wells of American Fork, Utah; four daughters, Teresa Pitcher, Carlene Campella, Mary Tumlinson and Liz Miller, all of Spokane; his stepmother, Evelyn Swenson, and two brothers, Sam and Terry Swanson, all of Sedro Woolley, Wash.; a sister, Diane Aucutt of Spokane; and numerous grandchildren.

Lester Malinak Spokane

Private service for Lester Norman Malinak Sr., 68, will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Fidelity Mausoleum at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Malinak, who was born in Moyie Springs, Idaho, died Sunday.

He graduated from Rogers High School in 1949 and married Sally Bodey in 1951.

Mr. Malinak was a journeyman carpenter and became a general contractor building homes in Spokane. He retired in 1994.

He was a member of the Carpenters Union.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Les Malinak Jr. of Spokane; four sisters, Gladys Davis of Spokane, Twila Steinbach of Greenacres, Ruth Kraus of Coeur d’Alene and Marie Johnston of Kingston, Idaho; and two brothers, Lloyd Malinak of Spokane and Gerald Malinak of Anchorage, Alaska.

Malinda Braman Spokane

No service will be held for Malinda Harriet Braman at her request. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Braman, who was born in Whitman County, died Saturday. She was 103. She had been a 75-year Spokane resident.

She attended Lower Downey School, and married Laurence Braman in 1920.

Mrs. Braman worked for The Great Northern Railroad and retired in 1962 after 20 years.

She was a member of the International Brotherhood of Firemen and Oilers.

Her husband died in 1977.

Survivors include 17 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Marian Masonhall Spirit Lake, Idaho

Visitation for Marian Irene Masonhall, 90, will be today at Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene. Graveside service will be Friday at 3:30 p.m. at West Lawn Memorial Park in Eugene, Ore.

Mrs. Masonhall, who was born in White, S.D., died Monday.

She traveled by horseback in the early 1920s to homestead in Canada and moved to Iowa in 1931 prior to settling in Cass Lake, Minn.

Mrs. Masonhall married Harvey Masonhall in 1935, and they moved to Wenatchee in 1939. They moved to Eugene and Springfield, Ore., in 1947.

Her husband died in 1973.

She moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1990 and then to Spirit Lake to be near family.

Survivors include two daughters, Audrey Triplett of Portland and Doris Smith of Post Falls; four sisters, Gladys Matheisen of Portland, Ruby Carlson of Duluth, Minn., Faye Derting of Wenatchee and Vi Baergen of Tri Cities; two grandsons and several great-grandchildren.

Joseph Basnaw Rathdrum, Idaho

Memorial service for Joseph Charles Basnaw, 59, will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Word of Life Community Church in Newman Lake. English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Basnaw died June 1.

He was born in Muskegon, Mich., and later moved to North Idaho where he was a longtime Rathdrum-area resident.

Survivors include seven children, Todd, Scott, Joe, Sandy, Leela, Tonya and Debbie; two brothers, George and Walter; two sisters, Sharon and LeAnn; and numerous grandchildren.

Bill Willard Tekoa, Wash.

Memorial service for Bill Willard, 84, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Plummer (Idaho) Bible Church. Kramer Funeral Home in Tekoa is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Willard, who was born in Tekoa, died Monday.

He graduated from Plummer High School in 1933 and married Stella Storms in 1937. They lived in Plummer.

In 1941 Mr. Willard and his wife moved to Rockford, where he owned and operated an auto freight company. He also worked in North Idaho at Farragut State Park on the construction of the Naval Training Center at the beginning of World War II.

In 1943 Mr. Willard moved back to Plummer, where he owned and operated Willard’s Market for six years.

In 1945 he joined the Army and served in Japan during World War II. He returned to Plummer and his grocery store after his discharge in 1946.

Mr. Willard was a trucker for E.C. Hay in the early 1950s and worked as a warehouseman in Tensed and Worley, Idaho, for Rathdrum Prairie Grain Co., for the next 18 years. In 1974 he worked for the Benewah County as a grader operator, retiring in 1980. After his retirement he drove a dump truck for Lloyd Selders in Plummer for several years.

He moved to Tekoa three years ago.

Mr. Willard was a member of the Plummer Senior Citizens and American Legion Post 69. He also served on the Plummer City Council and was mayor of Plummer during the 1960s.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Gary and Rodney Willard, both of Plummer, and David Willard of Toppenish, Wash.; three brothers, Don Willard of Kennewick, Roland Willard of Ocean Park, Wash., and Harold Willard of Yuma, Ariz.; three sisters, Vivian Fothergill of Spokane, Rose Sawyer of Longview, Wash., and Ellen Dretke of Caldwell, Idaho; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
