Steelworkers, Kaiser Start Talks
Kaiser Aluminum Corp. and the United Steelworkers union began three days of talks Wednesday in Houston aimed at narrowing differences in a 20-month labor dispute.
Meanwhile, some Steelworkers who own preferred stock in Kaiser Aluminum planned to question directors today at the company’s annual meeting, also in Houston.
About 25 Steelworkers who accumulated stock in the 1980s planned to ask questions about a July 5, 1999, explosion that destroyed the company’s Gramercy, La., plant, and about the company’s debt, union spokesman Jon Youngdahl said.
