Ventura not wrestling over endorsement
George W. Bush and Al Gore can forget about a presidential endorsement from Gov. Jesse Ventura: “I feel I’d be betraying the third-party movement if I endorse either candidate,” Ventura said Friday during the National Governors’ Association Health Care Conference.
Fired aide was trying a `Springtime for Buchanan’ strategy
Pat Buchanan’s campaign press secretary, Neil Bernstein, said he was fired Friday after he argued for presenting the tough-talking Reform Party presidential contender in forums such as the “Tonight Show” and “Saturday Night Live” to show off his lighter side. The real Pat Buchanan, Bernstein said, is no hard-edged ideologue.
“He’s an absolute delight to be around,” with a quick wit that would warm audiences, Bernstein added.
Iowa governor may make Gore veep list
Gov. Tom Vilsack has spoken with Al Gore’s campaign aides about the qualities needed in a running mate, and Gore’s people say Vilsack himself is on the list.
While Iowa has only seven electoral votes, Vilsack is a Midwesterner and that’s a key battleground in the race between Gore and George W. Bush.
