Trustees Scholarships Awarded At Ewu

The following Eastern Washington University students have been awarded Trustees Scholarships for the 2000-01 school year. These scholarships are awarded to continuing students for academic excellence:

Sonja Hammes is the daughter of George and Ardith Hammes, Cheney, and a 1998 graduate of Cheney High School. She is a junior majoring in theater and is also a stage technician. She is a member of the student affiliates of the American Chemical Society, the Theatre Club and the Phi Kappa Phi honor society.

Josie Kriegh is the daughter of Chuck and Carol Kriegh, Cheney, and a 1998 graduate of Cheney High School. She is a junior majoring in social work and is a member of the University Honors Program and the Phi Eta Sigma honor society. She recently returned from a mission in Chihuahua, Mexico, for the United Ministries.

JoEne Heimbigner, daughter of Jon and Karen Heimbigner, is a 1996 graduate and valedictorian of Shadle Park High School. She is a senior majoring in reading education, has a 3.98 grade-point avarage, is a member of Eastern’s volleyball team and the Big Sky AllAcademic Team and is a volunteer and reading tutor for local elementary schools.

Cecelia Clark, a 1967 graduate of DuVal High School in Maryland, is a junior majoring in psychology. She is a member of the Northeast Spokane Kiwanis Club, the Citizens Review Commission and Psi Chi, a psychology honor society. She also is involved in the University Honors Program.

Sommer Kraft has been named to the 2000 edition of Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. The program honors outstanding students throughout the United States.

Kraft, a senior at Eastern Washington University majoring in psychology with a 3.95 grade-point average, is a member of the Phi Eta Sigma, Psi Chi and Phi Kappa Phi honor societies. She is an advocate and educator for Creating a RapeFree Environment, a trauma team member, a psychophysiology lab assistant, a sexual assault victim’s advocate and a consultant for Gonzaga’s sexual assault program. In 1998 she took an honors presentation to the Western Regional Honors Conference. She presented her psychophysiology thesis at the Society of Psychophysiological Research Conference in 1999 in Grenada, Spain. She was awarded the 2000 Woman of Achievement-Student award by the Spokane Area Women’s Leadership Conference in February.

A 1996 graduate of Cheney High School, she is the daughter of Andrea Kraft, Cheney, and Wayne Kraft, Spokane.
