Ray Expected To Reopen By Monday

The top layer of asphalt on a reconstructed Ray Street was being laid this week, and engineers hoped to have the thoroughfare reopened by this weekend.

Rain delayed work on Monday, but crews were hoping to spread 900 tons of asphalt on Tuesday, city officials said. Once the pavement is down, the contractor would need to install temporary lane striping before traffic would be allowed on the rebuilt arterial.

Reopening is expected no later than Monday, said Jim Laughtland of the city’s construction field office.

Ray has been restricted throughout the spring between 14th and 37th avenues to sink new water lines and rebuild the road bed.

Work on major intersections along Ray is planned for next year.
