Delta Flight Makes Emergency Landing
A Delta Airlines flight bound for Tokyo returned to Portland to make an emergency landing Friday after one of its three engines failed shortly after takeoff Flight 51, carrying 264 passengers and 14 crew members, landed safely at 2:42 p.m., an hour and 22 minutes after takeoff, Delta spokeswoman April Bogle-Booth said.
The MD-11 jet circled above the city and southwestern Washington for more than an hour to dump fuel before beginning its descent. A separate runway was cleared for the landing, and emergency crews were standing by, but there were no injuries.
