Elian Sends Castro Father’S Day Greeting

Elian Gonzalez and the rest of his family sent a Father’s Day greeting to President Fidel Castro on the eve of a huge rally in Cuba on Saturday to protest the 6-year-old’s extended stay in the United States.

“On this Father’s Day we want to send you an affectionate greeting and a deserved kiss from all of us,” read the letter sent to Castro and all Cuban fathers and read Friday night on state television. “Especially to the father who we love very much for his unequaled teaching and infinite love … our commander-in-chief,” Fidel Castro.

Elian’s name led the list of signatories, followed by his father, Juan Miguel Gonzalez, his stepmother, Nersy, and five schoolmates from his hometown of Cardenas, Cuba, who are staying with the family in the United States.
