Pinhole Leak Fixed In Yellowstone Pipe

From Staff

Last month’s inspection of the Yellowstone Pipeline between Spokane and Moses Lake turned up only one pinhole leak, a spokesman for the operator said Monday.

Conoco’s John Bennitt said crews made repairs by replacing 4 feet of pipe around the perforation, which was found near Odessa.

He said he did not know whether any fuel leaked through the hole, but added that crews typically remove any contaminated soil during repairs.

The 6-inch pipeline transports gasoline and other fuels refined in Billings, Mont., to North Idaho and Eastern Washington.

The section from Spokane to Moses Lake is 99 miles long and carries 335,000 gallons of fuel daily.

Besides Conoco, the owners are Exxon Mobil and Unocal.
