Car Leads Deputy On Chase

Sheriff’s deputies arrested a North Side man Saturday morning after a high-speed chase along Bigelow Gulch Road.

Just after midnight a deputy in a marked patrol car saw a Corvette going north on Argonne Road at an estimated speed of 80 miles per hour in a 45 mph zone.

Following the car, he saw it pass two cars on the right, then turn west on Bigelow Gulch Road. The deputy turned on his cruiser’s flashing lights, but the Corvette continued speeding and passed cars in a no-passing zone, said Sheriff’s Office spokesman Dave Reagan.

The deputy said the Corvette was then traveling at about 90 mph.

As the Corvette entered a series of curves in the road, the deputy lost sight of the car but found it again at Bigelow Gulch and Palmer. A witness said he saw the car hit a guard rail and then land in the ditch.

After noticing a strong smell of alcohol, the deputy conducted field sobriety tests on the driver. Paramedics called to the scene checked the driver for injuries.

The deputy then arrested Donald D. Williams, 39, of 6821 N. Eastern. He was taken to jail and booked on charges of attempting to elude an officer and driving under the influence of alcohol.
