Ruth Foster Coeur d’Alene

Memorial service for Ruth L. Foster, 84, will be today at 2 p.m. at Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene.

Mrs. Foster, who was born in West Virginia, died Monday.

She settled in Southern California in the early 1970s and had worked as a book binder in the publishing industry until retiring in 1977.

She moved to the Coeur d’Alene area in the early 1980s.

She was a former member of Bell Church of God in California.

Her husband, Walton, died in 1977.

Survivors include three sons, Robert Foster of Guerneville, Calif., Samuel Foster of Welches, Wash., and Richard Foster of Blanchard, Idaho; three daughters, Lillian Spiese of Kansas City, Kan., Patricia Stern of Bluffton, S.C., and Joyce Rowand of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; a sister, Esther Sperry of Independence, Mo.; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Naomi (McCrite) VanKeuren Post Falls

Memorial service for Naomi F. (McCrite) VanKeuren, 65, will be Monday at 2 p.m. at English Funeral Chapel in Post Falls.

Mrs. VanKeuren, who was born in Avon, Colo., died Tuesday.

She moved to Post Falls from Colorado and attended Post Falls High School.

She married Ernest VanKeuren in 1951 and was a homemaker.

She was a member of the Jehovah’s Witness in Post Falls, and was active in sewing, fishing and handcrafts.

Survivors include her husband of more than 48 years; five daughters, Dorothy Rownfats of Plummer, Idaho, Debbie Reid of Springfield, Ore., Elizabeth VanKeuren of Loon Lake, Wash., Kathy Brown of Billings, Mont., and Denise Pourroy of Gracey, Ky.; a son, Robert VanKeuren of Post Falls; a brother, John McCrite of Rathdrum, Idaho; two sisters, Betty Cotter of Hayden Lake, Idaho, and Edna Grytness of Coeur d’Alene; 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Nicholas Begines Coeur d’Alene

Service for Nicholas C. Begines, 71, will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene. Burial with military rites will follow at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Begines, who was born in Pennsylvania, died Wednesday.

He served as a chief petty officer with the Navy for 20 years, including two years in Japan, and then worked at Rockwell International for 27 years before retiring in 1991.

Mr. Begines married Eva Sandstrom in 1964, and they lived in California prior to moving to the Coeur d’Alene area in 1991.

He was a fireman with the Mica-Kidd Island Volunteer Fire Department for nine years and also traveled abroad, including trips to Denmark and Sweden.

Mr. Begines was active in snow skiing and bowling, and studied military history.

Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Eva; three sons, Nick Begines Jr. of Palm Beach, Fla., Torben Begines of Hayden, Idaho, and Robert Henriksen of Ferndale, Wash.; two daughters, Cathy Mohr of League City, Texas, and Rose Marie Henderson of Bacliff, Texas; his former wife, MaryAnn Baldwin ; 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

William Peck Dalton Gardens, Idaho

Service for William James Peck, 63, will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Yates Funeral Home, Hayden (Idaho) Chapel. A reception will follow at Hayden Chapel Gathering Center.

Mr. Peck, who was born in Akron, Ohio, died Tuesday.

He graduated from high school in Akron and then served with the Army for three years, including a tour of duty in Germany.

Mr. Peck settled in California after his military service and began a long career as a plumber.

He married Georgieann Huss in 1982, and they lived in Van Nuys, Calif., before settling in the Coeur d’Alene area in 1984.

He was a member of Plumbers Union Local 44 in Spokane.

He was active in outdoor recreation, hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, William Peck of Boise and Robby Peck of Apple Valley, Calif.; two daughters, Gina Vecchiarelli of Syracuse, N.Y., and Laura Peck of Apple Valley; two brothers, Paul Peck of Sebastian, Fla., and Curt Peck of Akron; a sister, Jackie of Laguna Niguel, Calif.; a half-sister, Judy Estep of Akron; and several grandchildren.

Orville Phillipson Olympia

Memorial service for Orville Kenneth Phillipson, 79, will be at 1 p.m Sunday at Seashore Villa Clubhouse in Olympia. Bleitz Funeral Home in Seattle is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Phillipson, who was born in Donalda, Alberta, died June 9.

He graduated from Lewis and Clark High School.

Mr. Phillipson married Grace Hamilton in 1941 and served in the Army Air Corps from 1943 to 1946.

He later graduated from Eastern Washington University. A 45-year Spokane resident, he worked as a teacher and moved to Olympia 28 years ago.

Mr. Phillipson taught at Evergreen State College and also was an aircraft mechanic.

He was a member of the First Church of Christ Scientist in Boston and the Scottish Rite Masonic Lodge in Medical Lake and Cheney.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Kenneth Phillipson of Tumwater, Wash., Darrell Phillipson of Kent, Wash., and Terry Phillipson, of Aloha, Ore.; two daughters, Elaine Mahaffey of Taylorsville, Ky., and Nancy Morgan of Olympia; two brothers, John Phillipson of Spokane and Wallace Phillipson of Coeur d’Alene; a sister, Luella Ferree of Spokane; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Forrest Pry Hayden, Idaho

Memorial Mass for Forrest S. Pry, 83, will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Pius Roman Catholic Church in Coeur d’Alene. Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Pry, who was born in Craig, Colo., died Monday.

He lived in Colorado before moving to Chewelah, Wash., where he graduated from high school in 1936.

Mr. Pry married Ethel Williams in 1937, and they lived in Washington until settling in Coeur d’Alene in 1952.

He worked as an electrician at Kaiser Aluminum and retired in 1978. He was also a farmer, and raised peacocks and horses.

Mr. Pry was a member of St. Pius Catholic Church, Coeur d’Alene Camera Club, Kootenai Environmental Alliance and the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Posse.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years; a son, Barry Pry of Post Falls; three brothers, Albert Anderson of Seattle, Dick Anderson of Fruitland, Wash., and Ray Anderson of Kettle Falls, Wash.; two sisters, Mary Gifford of Gifford, Wash., and Lillie Dashiell of Hunters, Wash.; and one grand-daughter, Stacey.
