Coping With Cougars

Camping

Cougar numbers continue to be high throughout the Northwest - and one has been seen in the campground at Sullivan Lake - giving prudent campers cause to consider what they would do in case they encounter one of the big cats.

Make yourself as big as possible; put your arms up, pull your jacket up and use it as a flag.

Make noise. Lots of noise.

Don’t squat down or bend over.

Don’t run.

Small children are at highest risk of a cougar attack, especially if they stray on their own from a group.
