Nominations Sought For Literary Prizes
Nominations are being solicited for two of Washington’s more prestigious literary prizes.
The Washington State Library annually awards the Nancy Blankenship Pryor Award to “an individual or organization that has made a unique contribution to the literary culture of Washington.”
Nominations must be postmarked by July 31. For official forms, write to Washington State Library, Washington/Northwest Collection, P.O. Box 42460, Olympia, WA 98504-2460. Or call (360) 704-5209.
The Tacoma Public Library’s annual award, the Murray Morgan Prize, is given to “an outstanding Washington author in recognition of a work published during the previous year which is of high literary quality and wide interest.”
Nominations can be made in any genre, and the Morgan Prize carries with it a $1,000 honorarium. For more information, phone (253) 591-5666, or access the library system’s Web site at www.tpl.lib.wa.us.
The nomination deadline is Aug. 1.
Summer reading
There’s no better way for a kid to spend his or her summer than by reading. To fill that need, both local bookstores and public libraries sponsor reading clubs.
The Hastings Summer Reader Club, for example, not only gives kids the chance to read and discuss literature, but it entitles them to as much as a 20 percent discount on books.
Call the bookstore or library of your choice to see what’s available.
