Company Offers Local Dsl

From Staff

FROM BUSINESS SHORT REPORTS (Thursday, June 29, 2000): Correction: High-speed DSL (digital subscriber line) connections provided by Jato Communications will range from $130 to about $450 per month. An item in Tuesday’s Spokesman-Review gave incorrect monthly costs.

A Colorado-based company is the latest to offer business-grade digital subscriber line service in Spokane.

Jato Communications Corp., which offers high-speed Internet access, will offer DSL service ranging from 1.5 megabits per second to 144 kilobits per second.

Most home computers use 56 kilobit-per-second connections. DSL’s fastest connections are about 25 times faster.

Jato will charge from $1,000 to $1,500 per month for its fastest DSL connections. The slower, 144 kbps, connections, cost $130 per month.

Jato’s Spokane coverage area includes the downtown and central city and most of the I-90 corridor. Jato spokesman Mark Nixon said that allows the company to reach about 15,000 businesses in the area.
