Yankees, Cubs Make Little Progress In Sosa Talks

Wire Report

Whether the Yankees are dragging more on or off the field at this juncture, it’s a tough call.

While the Bombers in uniform had another miserable day, placing Ramiro Mendoza on the 15-day disabled list and seeing rookie Ben Ford take a beating from the Tigers in a 13-6 defeat, the Yankees employees in more formal wear met, talked, and appeared to make little progress in their quest for Sammy Sosa.

The Yankees and Cubs did communicate, and it appears that Chicago pitcher Ismael Valdes is back in the discussions. That would make sense, in light of Mendoza’s injury. Yet the two clubs continued to battle over which Yankees prospects would be in the deal. Still, the Bombers are reluctant to trade 20-year-old Jackson Melian, a five-tool outfield prospect, along with Ricky Ledee, Jake Westbrook, Alfonso Soriano, and D’Angelo Jimenez.
