Magical Strings Perform Sunday

The Spokane Folklore Society is once again bringing some of the Northwest’s more popular Celtic performers to The Met in downtown Spokane. The third annual Magical Strings concert will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday.

The St. Patrick’s Day celebration will also include dancers from the Haran School of Irish Dance, William Pint, Felicia Dale and juggler Thomas Arthur.

Magical Strings is composed of Philip and Pam Boulding performing on a blend of Celtic harps, hammered dulcimers and pennywhistles. They will be joined on stage by their five grown children, who play the violin, cello, harp, piano and field organ.

The group has toured nationwide and overseas for the past 20 years (sans children in the early years). Their 10th and most recent recording is titled “Legends of Inishcahey.” The group also has performed several times on Garrison Keillor’s “A Prarie Home Companion” radio broadcast.

The Haran Irish Dancers hail from Kettle Falls, Wash., and are students of Deirdre Abeid, a certified Irish step-dancing teacher. They perform frequently at Northwest fairs and other community events. Two students, Caitlin Abeid and Logan Aldous-Worley, recently qualified to go to the world competition in Ireland.

Tickets for the event are $15 for adults, $8 for children 12 and under, and $12 for society members. Tickets are available at G&B Select-a-Seat outlets, by phone at (800) 325-SEAT or online at www.ticketswest.com.
