Another strong pitching performance failed to result in victory for the Gonzaga University baseball team Wednesday as North Carolina-Ashville trimmed the Bulldogs 3-2 in the Pepsi/Johnny Quik Classic at Fresno, Calif.

UNCA scored two unearned runs in the second inning, then broke a 2-2 tie with a single run in the top of the seventh. Gonzaga (7-6) has lost three of its last five games, all by one run.

Depending on later results Wednesday, GU will be seeded third or fourth out of their bracket for today’s cross-divisional games.

Robbie Crain’s run-scoring single in the sixth inning proved to be the winning run as North Idaho College (3-5) defeated Community Colleges of Spokane (2-4) 6-4 at Spokane Falls CC.

Taylor West had three hits, including a triple and a run-scoring double, for the Cardinals. Pete Doumit drove in two of the four runs scored by the Sasquatch.
