Time To Pool Your Pool And Park Ideas

Anyone with thoughts about the new pool at Valley Mission Park can pitch their ideas to officials at two upcoming workshops.

The Spokane County Parks and Recreation Department will sponsor two public workshops to gather comments on the new pool and a new master plan for Valley Mission Park.

The workshops will be held from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Monday and March 27, at the Valley Senior Center, 11423 E. Mission.

Representatives from the architectural firm Denny Christenson Associations and landscape architect Tom Sherry will host the workshops.

The new pool, which will be located on the south side of Mission Avenue, across the street from the current park, is tentatively scheduled to open in June 2001. It will replace the existing pool, which will be demolished because the pool continues to settle.

The first workshop will focus on gathering ideas for the pool design, and such possibilities as spray and splashing water toys, earth berms to help buffer the pool from the existing neighborhood, as well as possible play areas or picnic areas around the pool.

The second workshop will focus on a coherent plan involving the suggested ideas, said Sherry. Then architects will firm up a design plan and construction documents.

The master plan, which may involve a third workshop later this spring, will address such questions as relocating the existing senior center building, the condition of the tennis courts and the riding arena.
