Sunshine Mining Posts Loss For 1999
Sunshine Mining and Refining Co. lost $10.8 million last year.
The loss, which amounts to 31 cents a share, compared with a $64.8 million loss for 1998 - mainly due to the write-down of the Sunshine Mine that year.
The Sunshine Mine near Big Creek, Idaho, produced 5.2 million ounces of silver last year. Cash production costs were $4.36 per ounce of silver.
Sunshine also owns the Pirquitas property in Argentina, an underground silver and tin mine that the company hopes to turn into an open-pit, low-cost producer. Several other exploration projects are under way in Argentina, company officials said.
